Accommodation at Birchwood Court

Birchwood Court is the second purpose-built residential care home in the Easington area in Durham to have been specifically designed to cater for the elderly and infirm. Inside, the decoration, furnishings and brass fittings provide luxurious five star residential care accommodation on two floors.

Rooms

Accommodation comprises single, luxuriously appointed bed/sitting rooms that are spacious and bright, all of which have private en-suite facilities, telephone and TV points, over-bed lights and even their own thermostat which can be regulated to suit individual requirements. We do encourage our residents to personalise their rooms and would be happy to assist with this.

An Example of the Excellent Accommodation we Offer

Residents may have their own keys to their rooms to provide safety, security and privacy for all money and property. Any items of significant value can be deposited in the safe.

Lounges and Communal Areas

The wide, bright corridors lead to beautiful lounges and dining areas which have excellent views of the well kept extensive gardens, school playing fields and community. The many lounges and communal areas are spacious, but not oversized, giving a homely feel rather than one of institutionalisation.

These provide residents with a variety of meeting places, either for conversation, watching television, listening to the radio, reading or for peace and quiet. For residents with hearing difficulties, induction loops are provided in some communal areas.

Facilities

In addition to the en-suite facilities, modern, specially equipped bathrooms, shower-rooms and WCs accommodate the needs of any resident, whatever their disability.

The homes are serviced by a large stretcher lift as well as staircases for those with no mobility problems – all areas within the home are easily accessible to wheelchair users.

Tea and coffee-making facilities are provided within the communal dining areas.

A care call system has been installed throughout the buildings giving reassurance and peace of mind that staff can be contacted at the press of a button 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The most up to date fire and safety features have been incorporated for the well-being and protection of residents and staff.

Ample car parking is provided for visitors.

There are a small number of Premier suites available for a supplement, these suites being more spacious and luxuriously equipped.
